Candle carving
After I posted the video about art created by pouring paint, Mel V. and Paulo countered with links to this video of candle carving. I found additional (similar) ones here and here.

Impractical, but clever
Superette, an Auckland boutique chain, wanted to promote a short shorts sale. From ad agency DDB Auckland's press note:Via The Daily Dish."We put indented plates on bus stop, mall, and park benches, so that when people sat down, the message was imprinted on their thighs. This meant that as well as having branded seats, a veritable army of free media was created, with thousands of imprints being created and lasting up to an hour."

The dynamic art of Holton Rower
The process is shown in the video above; the end result, when viewed from above, looks like this:
Other examples here. I think it looks like fun.

KHET - a laser-based board game
Popsci has a gallery of a dozen "Best Kids' Toys for Adults." This is the one that sounds most interesting to me:
Lasers have come to board games. In KHET, each player attacks with a class-two laser beam (read: the kind that won't blind you); the beam reflects off mirrors on one or more sides of the pyramid game pieces; any piece that gets illuminated is considered a hit and gets removed from the board. The goal: to take out your opponent's Sphinx. The board has as many gameplay options as chess, but, the inventor claims, is as simple to understand as checkers. $40.Others at the link.

Create your own glow-in-the-dark flowers
All that's required is to allow the contents of a fluorescent hi-lighter to be absorbed via the stem of a cut flower. Nurd Rage shows how it's done in this brief video.

Romeo and Juliet poster
Back again. Cryptic done. Mubarak clueless.
Here's a poster for a production of Romeo and Juliet. I think the graphic design is quite clever.

Snowdecahedron
I may try this. Photo via sushiesque's Flickr photostream. Additional information about the sculpture found by Aaron D at the Universal Hub.
Moldy Petri dishes
If they look a little too perfect, it's because those are crochet molds on a felt base, sold by elinart at Etsy.

The modern megaliths of North Korea
From a photoessay with about a hundred photos of North Korea, I found the two above to be the most interesting: "The road is prepared for an invasion, the big cubes can be pushed on the road to trap the enemy tanks. Just in case, they put those things up on every road in the radius of 50km from the border, they are often decorated. "

"Apple feeder" for birds
Constructed out of a coathanger and pieces of bamboo, as explained in the comments at Peregrine's Bird Blog. I'll have to try this, especially since rotting fruit also attracts a variety of butterflies.

Bacon candle
This looks like a good idea - pour your bacon grease into a jar, insert a wick, and enjoy a candle that emits the smell of bacon. I've asked one knowledgeable cook about this and was told that the product would be susceptible to turning rancid if not used right away. Does anyone have practical experience with this? Or want to try it and report back here?

Sailing on the beach, 1900
Photo taken at Ormond, Florida, about 1900. It's a posed photo on a stationary vehicle. The problem of "coming about" with a "deck sweeper" boom is noted at Shorpy, where you can view a larger image.

Webbed sports glove
Manufactured by DarkFin for swimmers (scuba, surfing, etc) and for skydiving. Reminiscent of (?inspired by) the hands of the Creature from the Black Lagoon. I would have loved to have had something like this when I was a kid.

Ancient Greek "dribble glass"
"...this cup, credited to Pythagoras of Samos, works fine if you fill it no higher than the dotted line. If you add more, the liquid spills over the elbow joint and a siphon effect pours the cup’s entire contents onto your lap."Found while rummaging in the Futility Closet.
