"It may not be possible to for anyone to create a definitive selection of the forty “best” or “most important” nature photographs, if only due to the vast variety of criteria that must be considered. We decided to try anyway."Seventeen of the photographs are posted in the ILCP's Flickr photostream. Interestingly, four of the final forty photographs were taken by Jim Brandenburg, a Minnesota native from Ely, who for the past 25 years has done contract work for National Geographic Magazine.

Outstanding nature photography
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, the International League of Conservation Photographers have selected what they consider to be "the 40 best nature photographs ever made."
